You are looking at a pair of jade or some kind of hard stone carvings of identical mirror elephants on rosewood plinths delicately carved. The artist has carved them diligently showing the large ears, musculature, wrinkles and gracious posture of the elephants. When looked from above you can admire the perfection of the protrusion of the backbones and other bones that are noticeable when pachyderms are in motion or flap their ears. The large ears have been so masterfully carved that they are almost see-through translucent as can be seen on the first and second photos. They are brand new and have never been taken out of their silk padded box. Made in Inner Mongolia sometime in the 1970s. The large blue box that contains them has a label that reads Made in China as opposed to People's Republic of China. Unclear whether this would indicate age. Measurements are approximate only: Approx. size from tail to tip of trunk: 1 1/2". Approx. height from the base of the plinth (stand) to the top of the back of the elephant: 2 1/2". Color: mottled green and white. The stone has a nice sheen and is very cold to the touch. Insurance is required for shipping.
